About Us
We are a student-run organization dedicated to connecting the USC community with the local community, as well as to exploring the relationship between business, service, and ethics.
In conjunction with the Marshall School of Business, MOVE’s goal is to not only develop future business leaders, but to develop socially conscious individuals with a desire to make a difference. MOVE seeks to enhance the quality and character of its members through its service initiatives.
To achieve their mission, MOVE hosts service, social and professional events designed to illustrate the value and power of social responsibility. In addition to the many events held throughout each semester, MOVE’s signature event is the annual Marshall Community Service Day in the spring semester.
HISTORY
“The master in the art of living makes little distinction between his work and his play, his labor and his leisure, his mind and his body, his information and his recreation, his love and his religion. He hardly knows which is which. He simply pursues his vision of excellence at whatever he does, leaving others to decide whether he is working or playing. To him he’s always doing both.” – James A. Michener
With this quote and a smile, USC’s Marshall School of Business Senior Stephanie Atiase formed the MCSD Leadership Team and brought to life the first Marshall Community Service Day (MCSD) on March 24th, 2007. Stephanie envisioned MCSD as a day for students to develop relationships with their peers and the USC family, while actively engaging in volunteer work throughout the community.
Inspired by the success of the first MCSD, as well as by the belief in the power of business to make a difference, USC Marshall students, Cindy Fu and Wendy Levine, along with a dedicated team of student leaders, launched Marshall Outreach & Volunteer Entrepreneurs (MOVE) in Fall 2008. MOVE was founded as a student organization to carry on MCSD, as well as the event’s spirit and mission year-round, and like MCSD, is built on the belief that service and social responsibility are essential parts of being a great business leader.
MOVE stands for a simple but powerful cause…to bring our mission statement to life. Using the inspiration of James A. Michener’s quote and the support from hard working students, we hope to maintain this momentum and continue to grow for years to come.
